Dear mons and dads,
I need some advice.
I would like to buy a bike as a b-day present for my 3 yrs old (going to be).
I saw some kids ride a wooden bike w/ no pedals. Is that kind gd for new beginners. If its gd, which brand can recommeded and where can i buy it?
Thousand thanks

Starting with how it is for beginners: Absolutely Fantastic! Removing the pedals from the equation allows the child to focus on balance without further complications. Furthermore, a kid can learn to "walk around" on one of these in 15 seconds. It's a smooth transition from "walking the bike" to lifting the feet up and coasting. This means the kid is easily motivated without need for prompting from mom/dad/helper. Compare with the steep learning curve of pedaling and balancing all at once.
All the kids in our building who started on one of these bikes have gone on to "real" bikes much earlier than the all the other kids (who never seem to get rid of the training wheels). For example, our daughter was on a "real" bike at 3y 4m. Our neighbor's son is looking to soon beat that record.
The wooden one you have seen is branded "LikeABike". It's just fine. More generally they are known as "balance bikes".
Given the HK climate I would recommend a metal one. We got a one at "It's Imagical" in Harbor City/Ocean Terminal and it's great. I forget the exact brand they carry but just ask for "bike without Pedals" Make sure you call first as they may have to order it. It was HK$999. Despite being metal it is very light so no issue with the kid handling it.
I have also seen other brands. From my experience, they are all pretty much equally good functionally. Some have brakes and some don't but it isn't that important at this stage.

i'll second happymum! i bought a wooden balance bike from peppystore for my 3yr old daughter...very good quality, adjustable seat height , pneumatic tires
my daughter walked it around our estate a few times, and now when she sits on it, she immediately tries to balance with her feet off the ground...very intuitive imho
