Help! Male pattern hair loss

ORIGINAL POST

I'm a female with huge hair loss - I can now see my scalp! Anaemia, hormomal imbalance, stress have all been ruled out. It's just plain hair loss and lots of it. Has anyone out there experienced success with any of the commercial hair establishments that promise a head full of new hair??? Bit desperate but dermatologists are too expensive. (I know the commercial establishments aren't cheap either but am willing to try at this point).

dear pengal -- just use any 2% monoxydil solution (this is the best and tested) though please be aware that it is a vaso-dilator ie it opens the blood vessels so it is not recommended if you have high blood pressure

Pm me if you need more details/replies

if not already done so see a dermatologist, i.e. seek medical advise, not only for what maybe the real cause for the hair loss in your case, but also for what the best treatment options are for you. using products that work for men, eg. propacia and others, may not only not work for women but be dangerous for you to take!

One of the drawbacks of this, I understand, is that it may work if you have been on it for 6 months (takes a long time for it to get going), but the day you stop, all the results go out the window, ie. all your hair will fall. So it really is a lifestyle choice/dependence. Plus there are some serious side effects - yes, consult your doctor first.

I would highly advise seeing a dermatologist over a "hair loss centre", as the loss of hair is related to the skin, there are a lot ot heartless people running hair loss centres out there. As SanjKash mentioned, usually once you stop taking the medicine, the problem returns. There is also a powder you can use specifically to cover the scalp that's visible. If you want the details I'll hunt it out for you, I think u will have to get it from the USA shipped over. Don't stress to much, it's just hair it doesn't define you :)
