My wife and i have lived apart in HK for more than 3 years. We have two young children. Our relationship is amicable and we both put the children's interests first. We have discussed divorce in the past but decided to keep things as they were for the time being.
My question: if we were to now decide to go ahead with a divorce, would it be possible to do this without a lawyer in HK? We would both prefer not to pay $$ that could be used for relocation, education etc etc if we didn't have to. If we did engage lawyers, does anyone know how much we might expect to pay, assuming that things remained amicable? Any recommendations for lawyers?
This is a very difficult situation for us and I would most grateful for advice. Thanks.

The costs rise when you both can't come to agreement (this is the key area) on terms i.e. children, property, assets, etc. If u get this all agreed first, then sign the petition then a local solicitor to finalize the whole thing may do it for HK$ 10k (based that the terms are all pre-agreed) as mine was HK$ 15k with a senior western solicitor.

You can file petition yourself.
We would be pleased to assist and our cost for initial interview is HK$2,800.
