Hi all,
I currently live in Kowloon. It takes me about 50m door to door to get to work at IFC2.
I am considering moving to somewhere "greener" like Clearwater Bay or Sai Kung. I would also plan to buy a car as part of the move to make life more convenient. And I would try and relocate my kids to a closers school.
However I still work in IFC2, what kind of commute, roughly, would I be looking at?
Thanks.

It depends on what time of day, I can drive from Clearwater Bay to Central in 25 mins on a good run. So you should really be looking at around the same time you do now. I know someone that lives in Lobster Bay, and works in IFC2, they park at Hang Hau and get the MTR. Not sure how long that takes though.

Sai Kung to Central takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes via bus and MTR- catch the mongkok bus from SK - and then get teh red line to central

Thanks all. I should clarify that I wouldnt be driving to work. The car is for the wife and weekends. I would be going public transport (maybe getting dropped off at a station).
I normally get to work at 0830 and leave at 1730 (or so).

Better to look at Clearwater Bay then, get the MTR from Hang Hau, I think its 11 stops to Central, From getting on the train shouldn;t take you much more than about 35 mins.

Thanks. So how long would I be looking at to get to Hang Hau by car and by bus? I assume that bus would be the normal way residents get to the MTR?
I was also planning on just visiting Clearwater bay one of these days just to look around. Whats the best way to get there from Hang Hau?

samster, surely the minibus to Hang Hau and train to Central is shorter (HH to Central is 29 mins...$11.2)

Hi there,
Clearwater Bay would be a lot closer than Sai Kung.
103M green top mini bus to Tseung Kwan O MTR would be the go
http://www.td.gov.hk/transport_in_hong_kong/public_transport/minibuses/green/gmb_online_guide/new_territories_gmb_routes/index.htm
runs around every 10-20 mins, takes around 10mins from Clearwater Bay 2nd beach (roughly the end of the run) down to Tseung Kwan O MTR
from there it's around 30 mins on the MTR to central

Thanks Bubble. Is a car required for Clearwater bay? It doesn't look as built up as Kowloon (ie I can currently just walk to the grocery store).

there is the 16, 103 and 103M minibuses as stated, up and back on CWB Road, and taxis galore...but a car would make it more convenient...there is a PnS at Silverstrand, but you'd likely do most of your shopping at Hang Hau (East Point City has Taste, some half decent restaurants, coffe shops, etc...)

I drop my husband off at Choi Hung MTR as it's only 5 mins from us (along Clearwater bay road). And it's 45 mins door to door for him to exchange square.
Compared to his colleagues who live at East TST, he takes roughly the same time.
Depending on your budget, you can get very decent places around Clearwater bay/Sai Kung area. Between the two, it all depends on yourself, Clearwater bay is more isolated, but convenient for shopping at HangHau & the MTR. Sai Kung is more vibrant, there's more community.

We have a car, but it's mainly for the wife & baby's convenience and days off outings etc.
However where we live, it's only 100m to road and therefore public transport, obviously some villages are a fair way from the main road (worth considering I think).
Solomani, PM sent.

Where we live is a 5 min walk to the bus stop on the old Clearwater Bay rd, and we have a small welcome within a 15 min walk, but most shops you need to drive. But its only a 10 min drive to Sai Kung where you can get pretty much everything. So you do need a family car, makes life a lot easier, but for you the commute is doable without a car, especially from Clearwater Bay. For other timings i.e days out.
15 mins to Clearwater Bay beach, 35 mins to Stanley, 40 mins to Big Wave Bay, 30 mins to Central, 35 mins to Disneyland - all these times are by car, 20 mins Sai Kung country park.
