Export laws?

I'd like to buy some antique furniture but I want to be sure I can take it with me when I leave HK. What are the laws on exporting antiques and how can I find out more about this? Shop owners will tell me "Sure, no problem!" but I really want to hear it from a reliable source.

Thanks!

I have sent antique furniture back to Australia with no problems. Depending on the state of the fiurniture it may need to be fumigated on arrival in Aust but customs will determine that.

The only thing I had to worry about was the certification of some pieces which I bought in China myseld. I had to get paperwork to take it out of China.

Of course your home country may have other rules. Ask them.

just did it too to Australia - even 2 Terracotta Warriors.

For Australia, you should have owned the items for at least 1 year otherwise if you declare it, you will pay Customs Duty.

Also, make sure that the packaging is of acceptable quality.

My warriors were encased in wooden frames from China. Australian customs didn't like them and had to pay like HKD$1500 to have the wooden frames destroyed.

If I had them repackaged properly in HK, it would've been cheaper.
