I have just returned to HK after 5 years in the wilderness known as UK!! Would like to keep in touch with friends and kids there who do not all have access to Skype. I used to use 007 but am not sure this is the most cost efficient. Any help would be gladly appreciated

We use Skype for everything.
Your friends don't need access to Skype. All you need is a Skype subscription and you can call their "normal" phones. It's about €8.50/month for unlimited calling to 26 countries. Or you can pay as you go. The rates are pretty good.
You can also set up an incoming number with Skype. You can even have several incoming numbers in different countries. E.g. you can set up a UK number for your friends to call and it rings where you are logged in.
Finally, get a Skype phone. That way it's just a phone and you are not tied to the computer.

i use IDT 1529 to Canada, crystal clear and low cost (google their rates as I can't be bothered lol)

Skype, Skype Out, Skype In.

I guess it depends where you call and how your Internet connection is. 99% of the time our Skype calls are crystal clear.

I use Hutchison - 0088 , 54HK$ permonth , unlimited calls to USA mobile and Land line , UK landline , Australia Landline , Singapore Landline & Mobile...

I usually call US and use 0060 provided by PCCW. The service I am using is 120mins/20HKD or U can also use 50mins/9KHD. After you have used up the time limit its just 22cents/min to US, which I presume is very reasonable. Anyway call their help line on 10060 and talk to their rep., they will be able to help.

Thanks for all that. I am moving from the apt my husband has been in on his own and PCCW have offered free relocation if we continue with them and also include 500 mins international calls (USA, Canada, China and Singapore for landline and mobiles) UK, Australia and about 8 others for landlines only so I guess I am sorted.
Great to get the help though, ta
