Getting away from it all - in Hong Kong

Are there any nice little tucked-away places to stay in Hong Kong (NT, the outlying islands).

I'd like to go away for a weekend WITHOUT having to scramble for a flight to Phuket/Boaracay/usual suspects.

Looking for somewhere decent - doesn't have to be 5star

(although 5star is ok too!)...just somewhere to relax, chill, read, perhaps even near a beach?

I've checked online and can't seem to find anything. Any help gratefully received!

Macau... Some of the new Hotels have pools that would make you forget you re not in Phuket.

I like to go there some week ends.. You find yourself in a totally different environment, even though you re only 50 minutes away from HK.

Westin on the beach in Macau is great. You can drop into Fernando's for eats... some other ideas and best guaranteed hotel rates for macau are here

Tip - if you can go on weekdays the hotel rates are very attractive

Don't try the Venetian for this. When I went on the weekend, it was crazy busy and lots of kids and adults shouting.

Four Seasons is excellent. Very quiet and incredible service.

I haven t tried the City Of Dreams yet, but some places seem nice.

Many thanks, everyone. Macau seems best option. Just for my own info - are there no places in HK itself? I'm thinking little guest houses or hotels tucked away? There are such nice places around HK itself - seems odd that no-one has decided to create a little haven to disappear to!

try Tai Long Wan in Sai Kung...the beach is pristine, isolated and it's likely you wont find another soul if you go on a weekday (except maybe the few villagers there).

There are simple accommodations to be had on the other side of Tai Long Wan. I think it's called Sai Wan Ting (not quite sure about the name of the village).

You can even camp or lodge at the youth hostel in Chek Keng.

The Gold Coast Hotel in the New Territories is very nice and fits the bill for you. I am not sure how many stars it has but it has everything one could want for a lazy weekend, even a beach!

Yeah, those sea ranches look nice and aren't expensive at all! I guess the reason is that they wouldn't be all that convenient if one were living there fulltime. I should get one and advertise it as a weekend getaway for people. From the website, it doesn't seem like you can rent them but only buy..
