Just go to the British embassy, on Supreme Court rd in Admiralty. You can download the forms from their website, fill in, take with your photo in the mornings, I think afternoons are for collection. Or you can pay $25 for them to post the new passport to you, it comes in about 6 days.

Thanks CD!

Do you by any chance know how much it will cost?

All info you'll need, including the charge, should on the website. But I understand that the cost of a UK passport has rocketed over the past couple of years, wherever you apply for it...

If I remember correctly its about $1800, or around $2300 for the 48 page one, the prices change though according to the exchange rate.

I have heard that it now takes 4 to 6 weeks to get a UK passport renewed, because everything is sent to London nowadays, adding two lots of courier delivery costs to the already hefty cost of renewing a passport which is full of visa stamps and therefore renewable years ahead of its expiry date. Is this true and is there any logic in changing a workable system to something that would appear unworkable to the Britiish civil service?

Hecules,

You are correct that you now have to allow 4-6 weeks for renewal here in HK. It is not because your passport gets sent to London but because HK is the only place in AsiaPac that passports are printed (so any from SG or AU get sent to HK). Also unfortunately there is no "fast-track" service as there is in the UK. But remember you can also renew your passport up to six months (I think) before it is due for renewal and your new passport will run on from the end date of your current one.

Hercules is correct, passports will be printed in the UK. Hong Kong will process the paperwork for Asia. Have a read through this link :

Wow. My error. Sorry.

When mine was done earlier in the year in March, I suppose it was still printed here (pre-01 Aug) as I definitely didn't have to pay courier charges too.

What a cheek? In order to reduce costs for the Passport Office they lump the courier costs on us instead!

I have been told that the process will cost in excess of HK$2,300, however, that isn't the biggest grouse. I'm likely to miss a significant funeral overseas and two business trips out of Hong Kong while I'm waiting for a new passport to be delivered.
