Hello,
I would like to hear some advice on breaking a company lease with landlords in HK. I give notice I wanted to break my lease approx. 2 months ago. Landlord said ok; just find someone to take over current lease at same rates. I did that, got them to deposit 2 months to my landlord and when it came to signing the landlord decided they could get more money and therefore did not sign. I have signed a new lease the same day this was supposed to get signed. We have tried or trying to get the landlord to accept an offer at a higher rate, but they are thinking they can get several thousand more...thanks to their agent which is also advertising the flat.
So, would a verbal yes and taking a deposit help my case if lawyers get involved? This is a company lease with minimum 8 months left and we do not want to do anything illegal such as sub-let or not pay on a contract.
I would appreciate some advice on my rights as the tenant in HK and this predicament.
Many thanks,

Should have got it in writing. Without this proof I am not sure you have a case and may be responsible for both properties.
But the landlord is pretty dumb holding out for more money in this climate.

Lesson learnt on that. Writing! I guess the root of evil is greed and money for some, however this is very stressful for myself and my pregnant wife...
I would love to hear some legal advice on my rights.
Thanks,

Maybe in the meantime you can email / write to the landlord clearly stating what was agreed and when, and say that your wife is pregnant etc and see what he comes back with. May not help, but worth a go...
