i would chose living at the sun hung kei tower in wan chai and then do direct commute to lok ma chau/huang gang by cross border bus. the bus takes 30 mins, the border crossing 15 mins.

alternatively, living on castle peak road close to a pick up point and take cross border bus through the new shenzhen bay border crossing. also pretty quick.

Where in SZ do you plan to open an office? SZ is a big, big city where travelling from the east to west can take 2 hours. You have a choice of 5 border crossings - Shenzhen Bay to which you can get to by bus/coach/taxi and takes you into the Shekou area of Nanshan, Lok Ma Chau by Train which takes you to Futian Port, Lok Ma Chau by coach which takes you into Huanggang, Lowu by train which takes you to LuoHu and Sha Tau Kok. For fast commute times I'd say the fastest and most convenient crossings are Shenzhen Bay and Lok Ma Chau by train. Lowu and Lok Ma Chau (by bus/coach) can be an absolute nightmare - in fact do as much as you can to avoid Lowu.

Do not travel at time of Chinese holidays even getting through SZ Bay earlier this year took over an hour at holiday time. Personal choice for me is SZ Bay - coaches travel from all over HK to there, I usually get the coach from Kowloon Tong when not driving over border which gives you some more expatcentric areas to choose.

i never had any issues with lok ma chau/huang gang by bus actually - and we always travel one with a western and one with a chinese passport. ok sometimes you have to wait a bit but i never experienced it to be longer than 30 mins (i know this is a lot but it was also an exception).

agree that shenzhen bay is fastest. issue is that right now there is not much in shenzhen bay adjacent to the border crossing. if your business does not focus on consumers downtown, i actually think shenzhen bay i.e. shekou/nanshan is a good place. have quite some modern buildings, shops, food options. plus the traffic is better when going up to baoan/airport and further to dongguan/guangzhou if you do b-2-b business.

if you go downtown (and that includes both luohu and huang guang) it can be a nightmare in terms of traffic, dirt, etc. but of course there are nice places there as well

Wikipedia has a page on the SZ Metro which shows both the current Metro and the new lines / extensions. The current metro is limited but will become much more usable as new lines open later this year, next year and 2011. Look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shenzhen_Metro

Hi, I would highly recommend Tung Chung. As it's close to the airport and also there is a direct bus from Tung Chung to Lo Wu! I think i'ts HK$30 per trip (with a regular timetable too) There is a hotel close by in Tung Chung so your friends or relatives can stay there if they want. Rental prices here will be around HK$10,000 for around 1000 sq ft. There are houses to rent too! Theyre around 40k per month.
