Hi..i m trying to follow Gina Ford for my now 2 month old son since birth. Anyone has problem following the night feeding? Ie, she suggested a split feed at 5pm and then 6.15pm. then, the next one is 10pm. my bub cannot last till 10pm. after the split feed or sometimes i feed once at 6.15pm to 6.30pm, i wake my bub at 8pm for a feed, follow by another one at 11pm or 11.30pm.

has anyone gone through this? do you give a feed in between 615pm and 10pm/11pm?

i must say i don't follow STRICTLy to Gina Ford's schedule, especially, if my son wants to feed more frequent than that.

I followed Gina generally but more for the timing of feeds as my kids didnt eat the amts she said - each child will be different and growth spurts come at different times so I dont think you can be as exact as she stipulates. I would say if your child is waking at 8pm, give them more at the 6.15pm so they can sleep till 10. Within a couple of months you are going to be wanting to drop the 10pm anyway so the idea is to get them eating most of their feeds during the day time and sleeping all night.

Hi Kiwimmc, yes..i do want to drop the 10pm feed eventually, but my bub doesn't last long after 6.15pm feed. he wants to feed 8-9 yish..despite giving a full feed at 6.15pm (he would be genuinely full and not wanting to drink further even though i have milk). so i have been feeding him at 8-9yish..and wake him up for a late nite feed at 11pm-11.30pm instead 10pm as suggested by Gina.

how?

guess I am confused by the split feed comment ... I recall (my baby is now 6 months) giving a feed when the baby woke up from the afternoon nap, so around 4.30-5pm and then another around 6.30 which set her up to last another 3 hours to 10pm. I used gina as a guideline for the general times to feed but found there were times it just didnt work and you have to do what your baby demands. As my mother said "the baby hasnt read the book so doesnt know that she shouldnt be feeding at 11pm". The good thing to remember is that what your baby does this week they will change next week so your baby may naturally drop that 8pm feed soon.

I followed Gina Ford fairly closely. but went back to work at 10 weeks. So I did not do the split feed, but moved back the 6:15 to 7:00-7:30. My son then lasted until 10 or 10:30.
