The new HTC is outstanding - I think it runs about 2500 if you sign up for a year plan at CSL

For smartphone less that 5K, there are a lot of choices, but first of all, have you considered what OS you want? A Windows mobile, Android phone or something else?

Nokia N97, iPhone 3G, HTC Touch Pro, Acer F900, HTC Magic, Acer X960, there are many choices, and will be cheaper with carrier contract. The latest hot platfrom will be on Andriod, which getting more mature from G1.

If there are only HTC Magic and HTC Diamond 2 left, personally I would prefer HTC Magic. As long as I read from tech magazines, the review is quite positive for HTC Magic, as for Diamond 2, most of them comment that there is no surprise and the difference between Diamond is slight.

Diamond 2 didn't change much from Diamond 1....

Just learn that there is a new Android phone coming shortly.....forgot what its name. If your budget is around 5K, why not wait and see.

HTC Hero will be the new Android phone. At the moment I'd take HTC Diamond over Magic - the Magic is one ugly beast. There have been numerous improvements over the original Diamond and it looks great as well as being one of the fastest phones around after iPhone. Others worth looking at are LG GC900 - great OS and superb camera and Samsung Omnia. N97 is a huge disappointment. All available for way less than 5k with contract.

Not much change on HTC Diamond 2, I would rather to wait Hero and see how that look compare with Magic.

Really? Pretty much a completely different phone according to all the reviews even the review from the website axptguy linked to above, look here http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/04/23/review_smartphone_htc_touch_diamond_2/. An expat friend reviews phones for local Chinese magazine and his impression is similar. The soon to be released Hero (August in HK) he already has and is reviewing. Seems HTC have now added their TouchFlo interface onto the front of Android and the phone itself looks a lot better than the toy looks of the Magic. Well worth the wait according to him, although he also mentions you can tell Android is nowhere near as well developed as Mac OS on iPhone and has a long way to go yet.
