Accountant changed address

ORIGINAL POST

My accountant has changed its address notifying me just a few days earlier.

They refuse to pay the expenses i have to make in order to update all the documents, and other related things i need to do because of them.

He only is willing to cover the printing a some mail forwarding to their new address.

However the expenses are much bigger.

What should i do? Get a lawyer?

Any advise is appreciated.

People change address all the time. It's just the way it is. To be honest if I was your accountant I wouldn't pay a thing!

I am assuming that you are using the accountant as a registered business address. That is a risk you take and I doubt there is anything you can do about it. I've seen it happen dozens of times here, especially with roller coaster rents. Businesses, like people are entitled to move. If we have to compensate others everytime we moved as individuals or business there would be a lot of bankrupt people around I'm sure.

Yes i use his address. Why is it that I have to make expenses, first of all he should take care of my business administration. Now he is putting me to work. And i am not so sure if there is nothing i can do...

And the fact that rent in Hong Kong goes up and down doesn't mean that i have to pay the final bill. I still wonder if i can't hold my accountant responsible for his actions, since i am paying him fees to take care of my mail. Anyhow, i am sure going to dig deep.

Yes advice, opinions won't help me. Its a legal matter and so i am looking for that kind of advice. So anyone knows where to turn to for issues like this? (Besides bullshit lawyers who charge 15k HKD just for looking into the case)

Not sure what this has to do with my issue, but let me try....

First, I am not working for them i am a customer,

second, its not ME who changed address...

(Kinda rude to let your customers pay for your mess, to say the least)

Third, i paying his bills for services that includes taking care of my mail, or in other words: "He is very much aware that i am using his address, even better it says in the contract"

In the contract it also says that i agreed not to terminate our agreement unilaterally.

Than your little example, if the company charge you what are you gonna do about it?

They are paying your wages, and most of all it is YOU how changed something, so if they think they are entitled to do so than its you that will pay. Which makes perfectly sense in this case.

Anyhow, i see 0.0 resemblance

Simple then, you are paying him for dealing with mail so just forward the mail. A few hundred dollars. You're very cagey on just what you are paying for, etc but as another businessman here you always take the risk. It's one I actually don't take myself.

This is HK. Businesses move all the time. This has an effect on everyone, suppliers, customers, etc. All have to spend time and money to make changes to accommodate this. To be honest you do not seem to be that organised for situations such as this and for the future you'd be better served putting you negative energy into doing something positive and making changes to prevent issues like that having so much of an impact in the future.

Than companies change address i totally understand. I do it my self too.

But as for an accountant that holds clients handling their mail you might

expect that you will be informed some time in advance. This Pro told me

like a few days upfront and is sitting in his new box already.

That i dont buy!

So what are the options?

Change accountant? How much will that be? (the good news, i have to change address anyway.)
