Would greatly appreciate if someone could help clarify...If we are married under the jurisdiction of another country....can we file for a divorce in the mainland, since we have been living here for a number of years now.

My guess would be that at least one of you needs to be Chinese citizen. If not, you can try the embassy of the country of your original marriage.
