Buying an iMac and notebook pro

Our HP pc and laptop have finally died (2003 models!) and we are looking at an iMac and notebook pro to replace them as son has a macbook and we like it! Just doing the basics for the iMac - lots of internet and wordprocessing, a bit of spreadsheet work, lots of photos, home movies, the odd kids game, etc. Totally non-techie so wonder if there are any issues anyone can help us with - best place to buy, (eg DG Lifestyle vs. Fortress vs online Macstore), latest specs, etc. Also, will be taking home out of HK eventually, so am not sure about the DVD being region-free? Any advice anyone has will be greatly appreciated!

Ultimate Computer in the Wan Chai Computer Centre (1st floor, go straight as you enter, then a bit left) is good. You can ask them about region-free.

On a Windows machine, it's easy to spoof the drive with dvd43 or something like that. On a Mac I don't know.
