We are having a discussion on cognitive development for a 2 year old toddler and would like to get your inputs/thoughts on the following:
a) what is an appropriate cognitive development framework for a toddler (outside language and social skills)?
b) what are some of the key areas to focus on?
c) what are the types of activities that will help in such developments?
d) what are the resources that you have found useful?

Why don't you google ''development milestone for toddlers'', a ton of info will pop up. There is also a book called Bright Start by Dr. Richard C. Woolfson. Its very detailed and it's split into sections covering development, movement, hand-eye coordination, language, learning & social/emotional development. Separate chapters are devoted to toddlers 16-36 mths & children 3-5 yrs. Lots of practical information.

Thanks mumbloxy. We have some of the books on toddlers as well, but still want to know and compare it with the experience of others. So far what we have is solely based on books or theory, does your child follow the milestone by Dr Woolfson? Our son is fine in language and social skills, but poor in recognizing colors, for examples.

Colors are really a two year thing. Heck, our daughter still gets colors wrong quite often, and she is almost four.
Unless something is really glaring, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Children develop in different areas at different rates.

its difficult to compare as every child develops at different pace. my son is pretty much on track as far as milestones go, except he can't jump at 2.5 yrs old. He tries very hard but can't lift off whereas all his friends can do it, but he's the most advanced language wise. I wouldn't worry too much about the color-thing, most kids don't even begin to get it at 3. I second axpatguy, you will sense if something is not quite right.
