I am looking for a nursery/kindergarten in Hk where you can leave your child for a few hours a day. I know a lot of places you can go with them from 6 months to 2,5 years, like play groups but wondering if there is anywhere you can actually leave them?
My son is just over one. I take him to play school but think it would be good if there is somewhere fun to leave him for a couple of hours a day.

Unfortunately this kind of place is hard to find. In HK, with the helper culture, daycare in the Western sense is not very common.

Po Leung Kuk (a local non charitable organization) has a creche in causeway bay. it's chinese-based though.

Friend had a hard time finding anything for her kid under 2- think she went to a place called (Casa?) Bambini but not sure how old she was when she started & she switched to another one when the kid was 2, just because her older kid had been there.

as far as i remember, causeway bay po leung kuk does not offer occasional care for kids under 2 years old. it is really difficult to find a place for a kid for a few hours. sometimes i have called through all the daycare centres that are listed as offering occasional care in HK island, and they claim to be fully booked for any date i have inquired (out of curiosity i even asked about some dates month or two later, but it just happened that 'just on that date' there would be no vacancy). i wonder if they get some benefit for listing as offering occasional care but that some centres might actually not offer such service in reality. for single parents without a helper at home or relatives to help it can be really hard to find a place where the child could spend a few hours in urgency
you can download a file on social service website listing daycare centres that at least in principal offer occasional care services. i found it easier to find vacancy in kowloon side. on the other hand one needs more reason that just looking for a fun place to play for the kid to use the occasional care (pay by hour) childcare services in the non-profit daycare centres

Another option is an "unofficial" playgroup. Lots of people arrange them with their neighbors and friends.

Garden house in Clearwater Bay has nursery classes for children unaccompanied from 2yrs, you can do either 2 or 3 mornings a week. I don't know anywhere from 1 though.
