Evening,
It's been years since having my last game console (sega megadrive nearly 20 years ago), and am looking at getting my two boys (9 & 5) their first. The Wii looks the favorite at the moment as it looks a real whole family thing, anyone got any negatives?
Also I need to get a new tv as we will set up the console in the spare room, I have read somewhere the modern games are not good on a plasma tv, anyone know of tv performance issues with the latest consoles.
Final question, if I look at the wii anyone know of a new upgraded model due to be released soon, most gagets I seem to get seem to release an upgraded version soon after I buy them.
Thanks in advance for any advise
Regards

The Wii is deffo the one to get unless you are a really hard core gamer. Very approachable, high "fun" factor, geared towards gaming together. Disadvantages:
- Less than stellar graphics compared to XBox 360 and PS3, but for us mere mortals they are more than good enough.
- No BluRay drive like the PS3, which can be used as a BluRay player.
- No Media Center Extender like the XBox 360.
- No Halo. ;)
Plasma. It used to be true that flats responded more slowly, but this was years ago. Nowadays that simply isn't the case. A modern LCD (get an LCD instead of a plasma unless you really really really care about color reproduction) is just fine.
No idea about an upgraded Wii, but I haven't heard of anything for this holiday season, the typical launch period.

I am in the same postion, thinking of buying my first game machine since Segamega.
I am only considering the Wii. I am too lazy to learn the adventure games, and they take up too much time. They have almost negated my brothers family life, he and his daughter game at the exclusion of the rest of the family.
If I did this the wife would kill me.
But the wii is very family oriented, I have played games with the whole family back home. It is also very energetic (even 10 pin bowling surprisingly), and so there is no 'couch potato' syndrome.

Does any one need Wii.
I can send you my Wii .
I just bought a Wii v3.4u and I have hit a wall. I rented the Zelda game and successfully loaded homebrew and downloaded some games. YEAH!

Yes, Wii for little fellas, but what about Dad?
Note to Santa/FC: Dad's definitely going to need bells and whistles... PS3 is the real all-in-one: 1080p (one very few machines that can playback 1080p 60fps videocam), blueray, wireless streaming, internet, attach an even bigger hard drive directly for all the photos and music, free demo game downloads enough for most time-poor dad's (only mandatory to buy gran turismo, when ever that comes out)...remote is bluetooth so machine can be hidden away out of sight.
These things are all getting cheap as chips these days, so get both... you only live once.
