Is taking a 3 year old to HK disney not a good idea? Relatives coming from overseas and really want to take thier son there, just wondering if its a good idea. Will Ocean Park be more suitable?

Depends on your 3 year old. We have friends who take their 2 year old and he LOVES it. On the other hand, our 3 year old would probably be rather intimidated by the whole thing.

Ocean Park is quite nice with the little ones actually. I think the "looking at the animals" thing is easier than rides. But that's just me.

I don't think Disney would be traumatic for a 3 year old. It might just not be that interesting for him. Then again, he might love love love it.

I think 3 is a great age for Disney here. He'll have a great time.

Ocean park is OK, but kind of limited to a small area for youngsters, and so much building going on at the moment. But why pick one over the other, go to both, plus lots of beach trips, great for a 3 year old.

OP is not really limited to one area for youngsters. Sure, "Kid's World" has all the "little" rides, but our kids have a great time looking at sea lions, going to the reef aquarium, checking out the pandas or even just riding the cable car.

If your relatives want to go to Disneyland, then don't discourage them from going - it may be that the adults REALLY want to go there.

I have 2 1/2 year old twin girls and they love Disney. Just don't try to see the whole park in one day and you will be fine. Start off slow and take lots of refreshment and bathroom breaks. Maybe begin with the merry go round, pooh bear ride, flying dumbo, tea cup ride and of course the "it's a small world" ride. All those rides are in one section of the park (fantasyland). Those will take about 2 -3 hours on a slow weekday. Don't go on the weekend or holidays if you want to enjoy yourself.

With children so small, seeing the characters up close might be intimidating. One of my twins hugged Mickey while the other was crying, all children will react differently. You could always admire the characters from afar and see how the little one is acting before you get up close. If they start squirming, maybe skip the personal character introductions.

I've been to Disney in Orlando and California and in my opinion HK Disney is the best with really small children. Maybe not so good with older children or with adult visitors because the park is small and limited. But with small kids, the park is the right size and I bet with a 3 year old, you will not finish the park in one day. Also, the park is not doing so well, so most weekdays, there are very short lines on some of the rides. The last few times I went the following rides were less than 5 minutes wait. Merry go round, It's a small world, buzz lightyear, teacup ride, space mountain. I've never been to any major amusement park with such short lines for some of the rides. Space mountain at other disney parks in the U.S. is usually a one hour wait. Please note that this is an adult ride, so hopefully there is an adult who does not like roller coasters who can watch the 3 year old.

In my opinion, Disney is suitable for most 3 year olds. The parents will know their kids the best. If they really want to go, why not? Enjoy.

We took our daughter for her 2nd birthday. She loved it ! Meeting the characters she really wanted to do. And when we actually got up to meet them, she was a little scared, then by about the 4th one she was fine. She just turned 4 this month and loves Disneyland now. We have taken her to Ocean Park and she does love the animals and the gondola, but it is very hilly and tiring. Another thing disappointing for her at OP, is she is not tall enough for alot of the kids rides.
