What to do with Coins??

Hopefully this is an easy one... where can I exchange HK coins. Can I simply take bags to the bank? will they charge me to deposit them?

hsbc has a cash center in the basement in central main office. that's where you can drop them

all banks that i have tried will charge personal account owners to deposit coins. you can avoid this cost by:

1) deposit less than 500 coins / day

2) separate and count the coins yourself before bringing

A few months ago I exchanged about HK$10,000 worth of HK coins (accumulated over a few years) at the HSBC Premier Center in Wanchai. It was about 70kg worth. They didn't charge me anything, though I had them pre-sorted into the plastic coin bags.

Get an octopus card linked to your credit card and coins magically disappear as a problem.
