Anyone know where I can get a typical touristy Chinese dress for my 7-year old niece (apparently wears 'age 12' clothes)? Preferably in Central or Admiralty. And preferably cheap, as she'll get bored of it or grow out of it within 6 months.
Thanks

Go to Tsimshatsui (Kowloon), there are quite a few shops selling Chinese crafts/clothes on Nathan Road near Chung King Mansion. If you are looking for something nicer, you can always visit YUE HWA CHINESE PRODUCTS EMPORIUM LIMITED. 301-309 Nathan Road. The stuff there will be more expensive but worth visiting because you can get all kinds of Chinese souveniris at one stop.

There's always Shanghai Tang, they also do children's sizes.

Thanks, both. In this weather (or any weather come to that) I'd rather not hit the TST area, though I realise that's probably the best place to get tourist tat like this. I do like Shanghai Tang's designs but it would be a criminal waste of money (imho, anyway) to spend their prices on something that will be worn a few times at most. Perhaps I'll just get her lots of sweets, as usual. Always seems to raise a big smile. In just a few more years I can give her money...happy days.

Down the lanes in Central

If you can't find it in Central there are several places in Stanley Market where you'll find a Chinese outfit for less than 100.

Tourist shop on the lane leading into the Wanchai wet market. Lots of touristy type gifts and clothing.
** With Chinese clothing it's generally rather difficult to size up if the child isn't with you. Perhaps best to buy a little bigger? At worst she can grow into it.
