I'm a complete tech dunce.
I recently bought an iMac and am beginning the process of transferring the files I want to keep from my Windows laptop to the iMac.
Regarding photos: I kept almost all of my SD memory cards and have loaded all the photos on these cards directly into my iMac. Now I discover that there are extra photos on my laptop which did not appear on the iMac. Either I have lost an SD or two, or I subsequently deleted photos off the cards after loading them onto my laptop.
Either way, can I connect my laptop to my iMac to transfer photos, and if so will ALL of the photos on the PC be transferred (meaning I'll have 2 copies of those that are already on the iMac)?

Agreed with Dadda. Use a flash drive or an external hard drive. Connecting laptop to iMac is of course possible with a crossover cable, but it's not the simplest of procedures unless you are familiar with networking.

OK thanks. I'm not sure what a flash drive is (I said I'm a tech dunce), but I have an old external hard drive somewhere so will try that route.
Thanks for the advice.

Flash drives little plastic sticks with memory in them that plug into USB ports. Sort of like a very small external hard drive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_flash_drive
Very practical, especially since you can now get 8 gigs for $120

Right I've got one and am loading my photos onto it.
Thanks.
