Last night a minibus ran into the back of our car, seriously damaging it, after another car did a U-turn in front of us, causing us to brake severely.
We now have to negotiate with AMS for the repair costs. Can anyone give me any hints, tips or advice on handling this as ideally I don't want a long drawn out process?

These mini bus drivers do not deserve to be let off with a settled case I suggest you get the Police involved and the driver charged for Carelss or Dangerous driving. If he hit the rear of you car he was following too close or not paying attention. do the guy before he kills some one next time

Thank you for this. The police came and took statements from a couple of witnesses. Yes I agree mini bus driver at fault but also the moronic driver who pulled the uturn with a total disregard for other road users.

Don't forget to report to your insurance company they will handle the civil claim. Seeing as the PLB was at fault go to the dealer for repairs not a back street garage

When I get caught speeding I get a $450 fine, same for using a slip lane to get onto Tuen Mun highway before 9am every morning. When a minibus driver smacks into you he does not even get a basic fine (happened to me so I know)
People in this town have no sense of space, I see everyday cars driving 80 to 90 kmh less than 10 yards away from the car in front. I saw a local lady driving on Lung Cheung Rd (an accident hot spot) recently doing about 80 kmh about 10 yards behind some poor guy on a skooter, there is no way in the world she could have avoided him if they had to stop suddenly. I even tried to pull up beside her to wave her to back off him but to no avail, often its done while yapping on a mobile phone also.
My drive to work is often delayed because of these morons

I forgot to add that you will need to claim this on your own insurance policy first, a claim against those mini-buses will take ages to be settled, the more recognised insurers won't touch them so they need to be insured by a local insurer.
You will need to push the police to prosecute the driver for careless driving

I drive a pick-up truck and there was a guy behind me yesterday so close I could only see the top of his roof. A quick detour to the hard shoulder flicked up some stones and debris onto his car and then he backed off
