Furniture Town SHUNDE in Guangdong.

Shunde is actually an industrial town and is part of Foshan, there are however many furniture factories there. Not sure about the exhibition building, I tend not to stay too long due to the pollution there. Travelling from there to GZ can be done by taxi or bus.

actually shunde is a sub-district part of the district of foshan. the town you are looking for is called lecong (or le-cong) which is physically next to the city of foshan.

there are three ways to get there:

1. take a taxi or bus from GZ (1-1.5h?)

2. take a ferry to from hong kong to shunde or zhonshan and then take a taxi from there (45min?)

3. take the shuttle bus from hong kong of hotel fortuna. this last option was a viable one when we went there last time, but you have to check with the hotel whether it's still offered

i recommend hotel fortuna itself as your base as it's a very affordable 5* hotel (at least the equipment is 5*; service was challenging when we visited)

lecong has multiple furniture areas, from 'department stores' with many shops inside to large halls supplying say mattresses or sofas. e.g. sofa city itself is a huge hall with literally 10,000 sofas or more. each one of them can be customized in any possible way you like (color, material, handles, size, etc.).

it's hard to find a larger selection anywhere (in the world?) so i am sure somewhere there must be your italian laquer. the issue is probably more to find it among all the 'normal furniture' within reasonable time.

my personal guess on the total size of halls or shops must be more like 10m sqf than 200k. we spent two days there (staying at the above hotel) and probably only saw 10-20% of it.

two tips:

1. once you arrive, visit first a logistics company to arrange all logistics back to hong kong. they will give you a bunch of their business cards which you drop off with the furniture supplier every time you buy something. the logistics company then handles the rest

2. you might want to try to find a guide for lecong to be more targeted when searching for something. it's a large place, hot and polluted so you want to avoid walking endless alleys of furniture. their main target are wholesellers so you find tons and tons of the same stuff in different shops rather than a vast variety of furniture (like e.g. in horizon plaza, ap lei chau). if you find a guide than can help you to skip the same stuff and show you more unique things, that would be great. maybe the hotel can help.

our whole apartment plus our friend's apartment in bombay has been fully furnished from there, so pm me if you need more details.

mate you just have to go there and pick. the logistics companies are on the south side of the louvre furniture mall.

shops are just tons. the hotel fortuna provides a handy small map which indicates all furniture malls
