Clearwater Bay Travel Advice

ORIGINAL POST

It looks like I am moving to Mang Kung Uk village in Clearwater bay (just off Clearwater Bay Road, near Silverstrand mart and a fewo ther villages). I am aware that this is a pretty convenient place to live and we can drive to a selection of MTR stations in a few minutes and all the rest. Unfortunately, we will not have a car for a few months after moving in and I was wodnering if anybody can give any travel advice on the best way to reach this village (or anywhere near it i.e. Silverstrand Mart) on public transport.

I know the 91 bus (Diamond Hill/Clearwater bay) stops close by, but I am thinking more in terms of getting there from the closer MTR stations such as Hang Hau/Po Lam/Tsuen Kwan O or better still from Hong Kong Island. There doesn't seem to be any major buses, and I can't find much information on Mini-buses online.

Also I am interested in how these routes are at night (after midnight). Late night, I am perfectly happy to jump into a cab, or use one of the night buses to make my way to Hang Hau/Po Lam/Tsuen Kwan O and jump in a cab from there but is there a better option?

Are there any super nifty day/night minibuses I should look out for? Any other tips anybody could give me?

Thanks in Advance.

You can always walk up the hill from TKO Hospital - those paths near the car repair shack lead you into the village. Lots of butterflies on the walk. If you go to www.centamap.com, go to Man Kung Uk, press English then use the left hand search engine for bus it will list mini buses as well as big buses for you. But its not working at this very minute.

No public tpt from Hang Hau, from memory the fare is about $24.

Mini bus from TKO.

Mini bus from Kowloon Ferry Terminal via Kwun Tong MTR - infrequent.

There is a late/overnight bus from Wan Chai that goes to TKO Hospital if you've missed the last train.

Hi there, I live just a few villages further in and we dont have a car and commute to Hong Kong Island and socialise there a lot so its easily doable.

There is the 103M minibus to and from Tseung Kwan O, there is also the 16 minbus to and from Hang Hau. 103M seems more frequent than 16.

On nights out I usually get the last MTR if I can make it and then a cab from Hang Hau to Home - about 21 dollars to Mang Kung Uk. If I want to stay out late then I call a discount taxi and its about HKD 130.00 from Wanchai to home - PM me if you want the number.

There is also a bus from central to Tseung Kwan O Hospital - the 692, but I havent used it yet.

Enjoy Clearwater Bay!

Hi and thanks for all of your advice!

Good tip on walking from TKO hospital, I will give that a try when I move in!

I had figured trying to make the last MTR and then taking a Taxi would be our most common form of transport. Looks like the 103M from Tsuen Kwan O runs until 1.30am as well which is good for slightly-late night returns. To be honest though, late night in Wan Chai it will inevitably always be in a cab knowing me...

I will definite take that number though, do they do pick ups from the Village as well? I will PM you now.

Thanks,

Joe
