Hello All
My wife and i are planning to go on a 2-3 week road trip around Malaysia. We will hire a car to drive around.
Can you guys recommend some places you have been and really enjoyed?
i have heard of an organutan orphange. Does anyone know where it is? Or a very good national park they visited.
Looking for less old buildings and more culture, homestay, visiting/staying in traditional villages, river cruises, white water rafting, Perentian island....
thanks

Depends on which part of Malaysia you will be going to. The country has 13 states, and the best one for beaches - East Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak) or Terengganu - Redang Island & Tioman. Resort information & bookings can be searched on web.
Penang is a nice place for a weekend - it covers many things historical and present - beach, food galore, temples (Kek Lok Si, snake temple), the old chinese clan homes (i forget the names), etc.
Distance from one city to another (peninsular) is not too far, about 1-2 hrs by car, highway driving is not difficult. However, its a good idea to have a plan of where you want to spend your hols.
Cheers.

You have sufficient time to visit Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo. AirAsia has excellent air fares and their site, together with web search, will provide good info. http://www.mountaintorq.com/ has the highest via ferrata in the world. In the mainland, driving along the east and west coast will be more interesting and cost effective than using the north south expressway.

Hi, we have just got back from 2 weeks in Malaysia. A few days in Sarawak and then 10 days in sabah. we hired a car for a couple of days and wish we had for longer, so you are def. making the right decision.
In Sabah, most of the parks and excursions are Government/Tourism run, so you do feel like yu are on a tourist conveyer belt. KK is an ugly place..Kuching is much prettier and we wish we had more time in Sarawak. We also stayed at Kapalai Resort for diving ..pretty pricey but worth every single penny. The driving was no problem ..but get something with a bit of 'oomph' for those steep hills!! There is almost too much to do .. but, as i'm sure you are aware ..it can't 'alf rain!! Have a great time! x
