I have a slipped disc in my lower back (L4/L5). I'm pregnant and due in a few weeks. I was wondering whether anyone with a similar condition could recommend a baby sling/carrier i.e. a Baby Bjorn type thing that you wear on your front the is designed to put the minimum amount of strain on your lower back?
Or is it just a bad idea all round???

I would say that you should talk to a physical therapist first.
Anyway here goes: You should get one of the more "advanced" Baby Björns with the extra back support. Specifically the Active and Synergy models (Synergy is more or less an Active for warmer climates, meaning it breathes better). The extra back pad really helps relieve strain. Also, ensure the lower straps are properly tightened. If they are loose you're still putting most of the weight on the shoulders, meaning more strain on the lower back.
Most people actually wear the classic BB a bit wrong. The "cross" where the straps intersect on the back should be as low as you can make them to decrease strain on the back.
