Playpen

ORIGINAL POST

I am looking at buying a playpen for my 6 month old daughter. We have a exersaucer, play mat and baby gym. We are looking at a play pen (like an exersaucer) be a safe and relatively confined environment at the same time.

Any suggestions on the types? brands? I saw a Baby einstein (graco) one and was wondering if that is any good.

My suggestion would be to cordon off a larger space (a room if possible) with gates. Then childproof the room (plug protectors, attaching furniture to walls, etc...). Your daughter will be crawling before you know it and a playpen isn't the largest space.

Anyway check out Bumps to Babes and Mothercare.

I bought a hexagonal shaped play pen from Bumps to Babes and you can attach it to the wall, so we have a corner of the room, maybe 6x5 foot, for the baby area with her toys in it. It was great because she could practise pulling herself up to standing, and walking around holding onto the bars. It also means our lounge room is tidy because all the toys are put into her area. If you have enough space, it's certainly useful to section off a corner for the baby!

I still think that kids should be allowed to run around in a larger area.

Picking up the toys is fast, and as they passes about the 1½-2 year mark kids should start picking up and putting away their own toys anyway.

We just bought a baby den from Mothercare. $799. It is hexagonal shaped and is excellent. We were borrowing our friends one which is the same and have now ended up buying one ourselves. Our 2 year old son loves it. We sometimes put a sheet over the top and he thinks it is his own little fort/playhut! We never used it as a punishment but kept some interesting toys in there and he goes in and out on his own (we leave the gate open). When baby #2 arrives, we intend to put the baby in there on a playmat until our son gets used to the baby.

only $799 at mothercare? i wonder if it's the same baby den, coz it costs us $1350 at b2b, we actually bought two, as we combined them to create a bigger area for my son
