Movies on NOW TV

I've just seen 'The Big Lebowkski' on HBO via Now TV, and although it was past 11 pm was saw that all four letter words and other adult content was excised.

I wondered why this happened and if it is a particular Hong Kong TV censorship rule, and where these 'family' version of movies come from?

The "family friendly" versions are probably easy to get hold of from the distributor. They would be used for broadcast US television, on aircraft and so forth.

I understand - and I think this was sort of confirmed by NOW's don't-have a-clue-Customer Services once - that they 'beam' in their programmes from Singapore which has a particularly strict policy on such naughtiness as profanities. (Except they don't always pick up expletives uttered with NZ and other accents so we do very occasionally get to hear the unexpurgated versions, as the makers intended us to!)

HBO Signature (or PLus.. can t remember) is the only one that isn't censured but needs the parental control code to be entered (or set off in the settings). Even all On Demand movies on HBO are censured.
