How to lose unwanted furniture

ORIGINAL POST

Despite having moved house/flat several times in Hong Kong, I find myself with a problem I haven't really faced before. I am moving to something much smaller than my present flat and need to get rid of masses of stuff.

Of course I have advertised it here in the Classifieds, but am not getting much response for the big stuff (beds, table and chairs) - can't even give it away!

Assuming that this is not simply the result of my terrible taste in furniture, I guess that this is not an unusual difficulty. How do you get rid of furniture that nobody wants? Is there a house clearance service and if so, how much does it cost?

Thank you, Sona, I will give it a try.

Kenny, your suggestions sound more exciting but also like a lot of hard work that may land me in jail.

You can fill in a form on the Crossroads web site & tell them what you have, then they'll get in touch & tell you what they want- they will pick up but sometimes you have to wait a couple of weeks till their van's in your area. Please don't dump it, that's such an irresponsible suggestion!

i think crossroads in not really a viable option for dumping unused items for the folowing reasons

1. They have a long period waiting time for pick up of goods so not a good solution if you need to get rid of stuff soon

2. they only would be able to receive specific items -

for appliances - give st. james settlement a call. they have a long waiting list for several working appliances for the elderly and for needy families ie. big tv's, refrigerator, radio, washing machine.

accdg to their website, they have no need for microwaves but they were happy to pick up mine for someone in need.

they pick up the big items too

Call Mr. Mak - 2795 7068

ps. I am not in any way connected with this organization

Just thought that it could be useful for anyone to donate their appliances rather than dump them. At least someone is going to make use of them.

It's a small gesture to help the community.

Take a look at the asiaxpat's 'WANTED' page - a lot of people asks for free stuff for their home or wanted to buy them at a very low & affordable price.
