Does anybody know if there is a web site or department to contact to find out if there is any finance outstanding on a second hand vehicle prior to a private sale.

I am not sure but would ring the place where you go to register your new ownership and ask them

if there is outstanding finance the finance company will hold the original VRD and you will be presented with a white copy (the original is a greyish). They dont give it back until everything is settled.
