Any hotel/destination suggestions? Beach is always good, but city is fine too. Thanks!

Shirley,

I agree with Paneristi enjoying time in HK with PARENTS doing child orientated activities (which they rarely have time for normally) is a better use of a child's time than spending HOURS on a plane/traveling for just 3 days.

kriskk: I have 8 days for vacation, not 3, and I would like to get out of HK. We can enjoy HK over shorter breaks and weekends, but I think it's worth the plane ride to get a break (for all of us). I was thinking somewhere under 4 hours away. We are new here and have not had a chance to travel much.

hshirley: non of us are happy with the pollution here, your reply doesn't help.

i'm looking for the same thing beamae...i was considering a Thai villa in phuket, pref. with a pool, so that bb (1.5 yrs) can be asleep at naptime while we are only steps away at the pool, but we are now thinking of Singapore for a week, cleaner and greener than HK, lots of parks and strolling areas, and Sentosa Island looks like fun for kids...we'll see!

I would recommend the Shang in Kota Kinabalu - very kid friendly. Our 3 year old had a great time in their kiddie area, kiddie pool, boat rides, orang utan sanctuary, trip to the zoo, massage by the waterfront - would recommend 4 ~5 days here

or

go to Bohol [ Amorita Resort], Philippines, 2 hours off Cebu via ferry, fantastic place- crystal clear water, great snorkeling, villas with private pool, river cruise, chocolate hills, organic bee farms - plenty to do over 5~ 6 days

We have travelled a lot around SE Asia with our young daughter but often stay in small non resort places. If that is your style I can recommend lots of the islands in Thailand (Koh Lanta and West Raleigh in Krabi are great!), we also travelled in Vietnam and around Bali. All very child friendly.

Having said that travel takes time so if you only have a week and just want a resort atmosphere, I can also recommend Rasa Ria (Shangri La) in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia as well as Friday's in Boracay, Philippines. We are heading to Palawan in the PH in Oct and that is meant to be wonderful as well. You have lots of choices - tripadvisor.com is a great resource! Happy travels!

I took my young daughter to London for a 14 day whammy holiday in the summer, we packed all the sites into the schedule and set off - it took a long time programming it and it would have given her some wonderfull exposure to England. We arrived at 6.00 in the morning and headed for the hotel in Paddington - it was too early to book in and so we took her to Hyde park where she found some childrens playgrounds - we went there everyday because thats what she wanted to do - we saw a few sites of London as a compromise but mainly she got more interaction with children than she would otherwise have got in Maddame Tassauds or other places - I say go to somewhere where she will have the time of her life, where you can take the watch off your arm, turn off the phone and just enjoy your little daughter in surroundings she likes - who knows it may be a real tardis trip for you too in short it has to be C L U B M E D

Check out some of the special rates for hotels in Shenzhen eg the Ritz Carlton has a great pool. Much cheaper five star luxury than anywhere else if you shop around for a good rate. All the top "big name' hotels are in Shenzhen and they want your business! For more budget travel, the Novotel or Mercure are good.

There's a new English Map of Shenzhen (in Dymocks) which tells you where everything is if you ever want to leave the hotel but poolside at the Ritz is pretty good. Jump in a taxi to Lok Ma Chau and then on the Shenzhen-side grab a cab for your hotel - easier than a flight and no packing needed!
