We do not want all the wires for individual surround sound speakers so we are considering a bar.
Has anyone got one of these? What do you recommend?

You mean like one sound source simulating surround instead of individual speakers? Well, there are decent ones but it's not the same thing.
For music, it doesn't matter that much. For DVDs, it can make quite a difference as the sound is encoded in 5.1. If a sound should come from behind the viewer, you simply won't get that with a bar.
There are some wireless solutions for sound actually.
