Can someone suggest the best way to do laundry in an eco-friendly way ? Would be nice if it was safe, clean & easy to do.

thanks for the reply. is there any brand of bio-degradable soap you'd recommend to use ?

an alternate option would be to try laundry balls (the good ones are from korea).

i started using them because of skin irritations(from chemicals in supermarket detergents). maybe not as snowy white & all that as chemical detergents, but it's good enough for me. plus i had no more skin irritations after few weeks of using laundry balls.

i've been using laundry ball for few months. not the most cleanest laudnry results - but clean enough unless i have bad stain or something. but my clothes feel much cleaner & comfortable becuase there's no residual chemicals. you can buy these thru the internet. just search for well-ball.

well, all you need is biodegradable washing powder and some outdoor space. do you have outdoor space? ie balcony, garden, rooftop? if not, how about a dehumidifier? except for the dehumidifier - you can eliminate the use of a dryer by leaving your laundry outdoors. Since you live in HK, you need a dehumidifier - you can leave your laundry in the same space as the machine. You still eliminate the use of a dryer. The other great thing about living in HK is the use of ceiling fans - if you have one - they do come in handy and take up WAY LESS energy then a dryer.

Dehumidifiers are fine for drying just a few items, but when you've got a family and need to dry large loads of clothes, not to mention thick towels and bed linen, I found that they took ages to dry and many items ended up smelling musty because they didn't dry fast enough. Sometimes it would take all day & night to dry them ... I'll be sticking with an hour or so in the tumble dryer!
