Home network using PCCW

I am no techie and just arrived in HK from Australia.

Moved into a new apartment at the weekend and get connected to PCCW 8M Internet and Now TV. I got both my Vista laptop and Imac to connect and work on the internet via a wire into the PCCW modem.

After reading a few forums I have now connected my Netgear router to the modem (to allow wireless access for both laptop and imac). Both Mac and laptop work when connected to the Netgear router via wire. The laptop works wirelessly. However I cannot get the mac to connect wirelessly.

Can anyone help? Again - I am no tech wizard!!

Thanks

It's a bit hard without knowing more info.

- What is the router model?

- What kind of encryption, if any, are you using on your Netgear router? If you can go into it's web menu at the relevant place, you would see WPA, WEP, WPA2 or something like that?

- Can the Mac see the network? As in does it get listed when the network utility searches?

Better use something more secure than WEP - I have a piece of software that can crack the password quicker than I can brew a cup of Vietnamese coffee!

Also check check the settings of FILE AND PRINTER SETTINGS, too.

You can connect the router in admin page and see whether firewall setup by default, but first try to connect the Mac without any WEP / WPA setting first.
