don't do WIFI, it's not stable. use something called homeplug, which transmit through your home electric wire. then use a multimedia box like http://www.dvico.com/ to connect through your homeplug (which operates like a network cable)

You'll need a machine to run the TV as a monitor.
You can:
- Use some sort of "media center in a box" to stream from your desktop via WiFi. WiFi works but is not as stable/fast as wired.
- Run a long monitor cable.
- Have a dedicated PC for the TV.
- Use some sort of wireless graphics solution. However these are range limited and wouldn't work from another room.

How about Apple TV? would it work?
Please support our advertisers:
Apple TV works. However note that the supported formats are severely limited. For example Apple TV does not support divx or xvid encoded video. Seeing as those are perhaps the most common codecs. Anyway it depends what your content is encoded as.
All in all Apple TV is a nice device, but you can really only use it "as designed". If you use iTunes a lot today, great. If you get content from other sources, probably not the best choice.

I saw on youtube that I can hack the apple TV using Boxee & XBMC. Once I installed these, can read divx or xvid encoded videos?

I'm pretty sure you could.
However you would likely void the warranty by doing it.

aTV is a software based hack. you do not open the Apple TV. it also has an uninstall if you need to change it back.
Here is the link. I set it up for one of my customers.

You'll need a high speed WiFi link (latest standard).
Remember that WiFi is SHARED so anyone can use the same channel as you - VIDEO interference is more irritating than crackling on radio.
Panasonic uses WiFi to drive a screen from a remote tuner box but it is very susceptible to interference. If someone is using it around your computer you will see User: Panasonic.
