ORIGINAL POST

Hi,

I am looking for someone to fit out my terrace with wooden decking.

I am only renting so am looking for the budget alternative.

Has anyone had any experience of this?

Hi Juji,

It's not cheap! In HK my research suggests costs of HKD 50+/sqf. Getting it from China could lower it to HKD 25/sqf.

Haven't really found anything cheaper yet.

Getting it in China involves travel and visa costs so for a small balcony it might be cheaper buying it in HK. I used a contractor in Wanchai. Gave him the measurements, picked the size of the planks, stain colour, and received a package delivered to my door a week later. Plop the pieces onto the floor myself and now have a nice looking balcony. One piece of advice - allow for an inch around the edge in case they get the measurements too close.

I can't remember the store but it was right around the corner from Ebeneezer. Bought some stones from the store across the street as a nice border liner.

Hi thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I have a 700sqft terrace which isn't exactly rectangle, in fact far from it.. and I would also like to cover some of the walls. So it won't be simple as painting up a plant and putting it down.

As I am almost useless with a hammer and nails I would probably need help. Just the thought of measuring up the space within and inch of all those strange shapes leaves me feeling rather daunted.

We did our 700 sf terrace 6 months ago in front of the sea in Sai Kung. It looks great. Our contractor did it during the renovation and it was reasonable. (but not cheap). If you need his contact, let me know.

As dadda said, the upkeep is a must because of the strong sun and strong rain. We plan to repaint it every year.
