Hi, we live in Tung Chung and thinking about getting a car for a daily trip to south lantau. Can anyone help with the costs, just wondering about insurance and permitts,... I am aware of the petrol and parking prices, thanks

Yes you are only eligible for a permit to drive overTC road from TC side if you have a govt stamped rental lease or electricity account in your name or authorised letter from your landlord on Sth Lantau side-so basically it won't work legally for you-sorry....

ps the road is open 24 hrs to permit holders now -but one needs the Lantau side permit ((900$) then yearly renewals $600$,plus theTC road one- free but involves paperwork to prove you live that side...

It s been open for almost a year..
Alot of cars use to drive over frequently on week ends without permits.. Not the police are there very often waiting.

yep they are but not as often ,strangely a,s before the new road opened- there used to be a roadside check point most mornings ...i am sure more daytrippers are skipping over these days- parking is getting tight in Mui Wo!
