U.S. (AT & T) iPhone 2G in HK?

Does anyone know if a first generation iPhone will work in Hong Kong? Since it doesn't look like I can unlock my iPhone 3g (was upgraded to 3.1, which I understand can't be unlocked yet) I thought maybe I could unlock an older iPhone I have. If so, does anyone have recommendations for a place that could unlock it as well as sell me a SIM card? I'll continue to try to unlock it myself, but not knowing what version of the firmware is on it makes things a little more complicated.

Thanks!

A good place to do the unlock is on OBrien Road in Wan Chai, intersection with Johnston Road. Close to Wan Chai MTR exit A3. It's the place on the corner with two "bays".

For a sim card, you can buy from them or from any mobile operator place. For pre-paid also 7/11, Circle-K, etc...

My guess would be 500-800.

You can also tried the shops in Mong Kon Sin Tat Center, there are many shops can help you to unlock your phone.

As for SIM, if you want the pre-paid one, you can either go 7-11 or join contract plans of different carrier. If you are staying in Hong Kong for a long period of time, usually contract plans will be cheaper.

Thanks! I dropped by the store and they're working on my phone now. They say the 1st gen (EDGE for data) would work fine in HK for voice and data. I hope they're right!

I'm only in Hong Kong for 2 months, so maybe prepaid would be better. I 'll ask. Is 7-11 the best place to get prepaid SIMs?

The good thing about 7-11 is that they have cards from the various providers so you can pick and choose. They are exactly the same cards you would buy at a mobile provider store but as I said you have a choice.

Peoples is the only 2G provider in Hong Kong, you can pick on that. For better quality you can pick Smartone.
