Loyd Grossman / Miss Venezuela,
What is considered good standing? I have commonwealth Aussie friend. He owns art business. Will his reference be adequate?
I have another british unemployed friend who is in the middle of trying to start his business, so I consider him entrepreneur.
both of these friends know me for many years.
I called the consulate, but they don't have clear answer. asked me to call UK where i must pay 0.69 pounds / minute (must be the recession in Europe)
i can also ask my dentist, but he is local chinese with HKSAR passport.
thanks Loyd Grossman, I always find your advise helpful.

I have had this problem too but the UK parliament says it has to be someone of good standing so their hands are tied. I think a teacher, a minister of religion, doctor, dentist, government official. Don't forget, the person doesn't have to be British, just a Commonwealth citizen. You can therefore ask an Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, Sri Lankan, Indian, Pakistani, South African, nigerian etc person of good-standing.

I've used a friend of mine who is a Canadian citizen and a teacher and had no problems for my renewals or first applications for my kids.

you guys mean to say, my aussie friend who owns limited company will not be regarded as an outstanding and good standing person by the consulate?

If you're renewing your passport you don't need someone of good standing to sign your photos. Just bring them unsigned with your old passport and they'll renew your passport for you.
