Bus mother on school bus squats on floor!

My 3.5 yr old takes the school bus (aka nanny van) to kindy. The bus (modified mini van, those little yellow ones) is packed and has only lapbelts so I am already pretty uncomfortable with it. Recently the bus must have got an extra passenger because the bus mother doesn't even have a seat, she just squats on the floor! Surely in the case of an accident (God forbid) the weight of her unrestrained adult body getting thrown against the kids would be a very nasty scenario. I tried calling the school (local kindy) but they just tell me to call the bus company (who don't speak any English). The bus company is obviously very greedy and doesn't care at all for safety (not just for the kids but the bus mother too) as they really should either say the bus is full or get another bus on the route. Has anyone ever heard of this kind of thing happening before? Is there any law or association that can help me? I'm so scared that there might be an accident! I'm feeling powerless but helpless!

Yikes. it's good of you to care.i haven't heard of this, but I'd write a note to the school with the bus route. If they don't follow up, ask get a Chinese-speaking friend to call and find out what is going on.Good luck!

You should make more noise at school- one of the school buses that comes to a kindy where I live used to sit out there with the engine running & the a/c on for long periods, not just in the 5 mins before the sweaty kids might come- I called the school & complained- problem solved same day.

I'm also a tour guide & the buses we use have a very clear sign saying what the capacity is (basically one bum per seat) - have a peek inside and see if you can see anything - usually above the front row or the driver's seat.
