HELP ME!

I could use a lot of help on many things... but today I am looking for ideas for the home page.


Here's what's happening... we have a team of Rocket Scientists recoding the entire site... every single interface is being made better (photo uploads, utilities on the forums, saving ads in classifieds etc etc etc... they are tasked with making the user experience better and making the sites lightening fast)


This is a huge project that has been underway for over 8 months - should be done by end yr fingers crossed.


Simultaneously we are now planning to make some upgrades to the 'skin' of the site - the skin is the part that you see other than the banners


Home page is our focus and we have agencies submitting ideas with costs.


First thing that happening is we are going to make the hotel module next to News bigger - it will stretch left to right - news will shift down and to the left of news we will have a video module...


Below that we will take the forums module (with some slight changes) from the bottom of this page and drop it in http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/forums/


We will be reformatting SPIKE... the rest of the features down the centre of the page will come off leaving lots of space for new ideas...


We have some ideas in mind but more than happy to hear some suggestions from our members on what you'd like to see that space used for...

You could maybe have a section which will be for events etc going on in Hong Kong, A little off the main thread, but is the redesign sometimes causing the google search to 'time out' before getting on the expat sight? or is it a pccw hiccup?

Looking forward to seeing the new web sight.

Unfortunately we have found that people dont use online much for events... we purchased That's Shanghai's web sites across China some yrs ago - they had extensive listings online - and almost none of their visitors were accessing that content...


I feel that event listings are better in print because you can easily scan and see which are of interest... online you have to search - but if you dont know exactly what you want this makes it cumbersome... Now property - thats another thing...
