The day trips out of Phuket (the harbor in the SE of the island) towards Phi Phi are OK. The boats all seem to go to the same few dive sites and a 3 dive day trip is quite nice. Very crowded boats, though, and visability can be so so. Lots of good things to see - but it's all relative, Similans are better and Indonesia a lot better. If I were based in BKK I'd be flying down to Bali for my regular dive trips rather than Phuket/Khao Lak.
