CNY snow hol w/4 yr old -China vs Japan?

We are looking into a snowy holiday for CNY this year and would love to hear recommendations for China vs Japan. We have a 4 year old who's never touched snow, so it's not about skiing, but playing, etc. Have never been into Club Meds (read about the Sahoro one in Japan). Looking for good value but also a good stay (i.e. nice/upmarket accommodation, friendly environment, good F&B). Wondering if China has an option as everything I've read talks about Japan. Thanks so much!

hey i know this doesnt answer your question but I've been reading around about snow holidays so I can choose one for Christmas with our 3yr old. My choice is Korea because is cheaper than Japan and the snow field is better than Beijing. I've been to Beijing with a few kids years ago but it was no good for those who just want to play around with snow and not skiing and especially during CNY the ppl there are so .....well not nice (probably have to work during cny or something...

) Japan is too expensive now with the exchange rate rocketing but if money is not a concern Japan is the best. Better than China or Korea. Just my opinion!

I am looking for something very similar to fushingbayloo. We have two kids aged 5 and 18 months so would like a snow experience holiday without the skiing. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good snow filled family vacation place around Asia? We don't mind a ski resort but it's unlikely we will have much time for skiing and it's really just about the kids playing in the snow.

I would recommend Myoko Kogen in Japan. It's definately not a party town and is great for people looking to make a family introduction to the snow. For an up-market experience look to the Akakura Kanko Hotel (very nice) or for those on a tighter budget try the Hotel Winsor, run by two of the most lovely people you will ever meet. If children are your main concern, I know that Myoko Snowsports (an English speaking ski school) have a ski program run specifically for 3-6yr olds and there is also a day care centre for the really tiny babies. I think they can be found through one of the myoko website http://myokokogen.net/ For those people who are not worried about skiing then the Myoko region is famous for it's hot springs called 'Onsen' and is only 2.5hrs away from Tokyo by bullet train. I hope this helps.
