How to pull apart cocktail shakers?

Anybody have the answer to this dilemma: how does one go about pulling apart stainless steel cocktail shakers, when the top bit will not come off from the bottom? I've tried freezing it hoping that the cold will make the steel contract, but no such luck.

Haha. If it were full, I might have resorted to a can opener. No, it's empty and I can't prise it apart to use it.

did you try dipping the top half of the frozen shaker into boiling water (ie heat the outer half, cool the inner half) to expand one but not both...?
