ladies - which pill did you start taking after you gave birth and while breastfeeding? my packs of microgynon 30 arent recommended while BF so pls help! tah!

Hi, you should go see your doctor as I recall that this kind of pill (progestogen-only) has to be prescribed rather than bought over the counter at Watsons etc. Can't recall the exact name of mine, think it was Microlut. It was difficult to get one of this type in HK when I tried. Ended up having to get it when I was back in my home country.

Hormonal contraceptives such as MICROLUT are not recommended as the contraceptive method of first choice during lactation. However, MICROLUT is often considered as the next choice. There appear to be no adverse effects on infant growth or development if MICROLUT is started six weeks after childbirth. MICROLUT does not appear to affect the quantity or quality of breast milk, however very small amounts of the hormone can be found in the breast milk.

Breastfeeding can be used as birth control, but under certain circumstances. Also, it's not entirely impossible to get pregnant … here are some links that might be helpful:
