Quite a few fridges allow you to easily move the hinges and handle. You can normally see this if you open the door as there will be holes for the screws. Also the door will have screw holes with little caps on them.

Other fridges can be ordered with a door in the other direction. Ask the store.

I have a fridge as you describe - upper freezer, fridge middle section and bottom section pull out drawer for fruit and vegetables. It is a Siemens. My old one - as you describe was a Pischer & Pykel. My Siemens is a left hand hinge - the Fischer & Pykel was a right hand hinge.

Try Fortress and when ordering ask for your preference for way the door opens.

Pretty much every fridge freezer we have owned has allowed you to change the hinge to the other side if required. 5 minutes job.

Last one we bought we had an issue with me wanting the fridge at the top, and freezer bottom. My rationale behind that was that I use the fridge several times more than the freezer and it would stop me having to bend so many times. Found one in the end but at the time wasn't easy!

Yeah fridge on top is the way to go. But of course most landlords go for price instead. ;)

I so wish we had an icemaker. Almost read to buy own fridge for this. It annoys me how landlords fix up the whole apartment really nicely, then "miss" the helper's room, the helper's bathroom and the appliances ("your helper is going to be cooking anyway"). Grrrrr.

But I digress.
