Tai Po

Hi;

I am thinking of taking a look ou at Tai Po as a potential place to move off the island too.

We are a 35's couple planning to start a family and looking for a more chilled outdoor life. I have lived in Clear water bay before and love it but the prices there have got too expensive to buy. Anyone share some info with me

Where to look at buying ?

Is there a specific community that is similar to around Silverstrand in CWB or Sai Kung Town ?

Any specific areas that people can recommend ?

How long would the drive be to the airport from Tai Po?

Any insight welcome

Thanks

I like Tai Po but you wont find a CWB or Sai Kung there! It covers such a huge area as well, Villages that go halfway to Fanling one way, half way to Shek Kong the other and of course out on the Ting Kok Road towards Tai Mei Tuk. This is probably where most of the expats would be and you can see a few in the evenings supping their beer outside one of the bar/restaurants in Tai Mei Tuk.

There are bars and restaurants in Tai Po centre but more localised. Driving to the airport, well quickest way would have to be straight down Highway 9, through Shatin, through Shing Mun Tunnel and Tsuen Wan to Lantau. I'd guess 40/45 mins?

Beforehand take a look at Sai Kung again, there are still a few bargains around especially further out of town, Ma On Shan and a few places around Shatin.

we have friends living out towards Tai Mei Tuk area too and it's quite nice - some good walks and cycling paths.. Not sure about the supermarket situations tho?

I think its a bit hard to get to as well? - why not look in sai kung again - -Tai Po Tsai - not too far from silver strand- and maybe even more conveniently towards choi hung on the CWB road..

Please be careful choosing location if you decided to live in Tai Po. Some places different kinds of people are living so it is not safe . Some expensive place like Hoh lok yuen , can stay peacefully . Also some house has no car park , you got to park in public monthly open space car park . Our car park there due to my house can't have driving way . Someone hit our car in front and run away , front light broken and the bumper was band . We couldn't find out who did it ... Environment is very important issue to consider if we stay in HK .
