We are moving to HK next month. Our new place will be a lot smaller than what we had therefore we have lots of stuff by HK standards. I’m planning to sell / give away some of them but obviously some of them will be needed on our next move to a new or our home country (which may be in 1-3 years time?).
Not only I don’t want to sell those needed ones for nothing and then pay the full price to buy them again, some of them are also reminders of the countries hosted us.
Do you have any suggestions for what can I do / how to keep these (or know any cheap storage in HK as the cost of the ones advertised on the internet are high)?

There is some storage space can be rented, however, the rental for storing furniture is not cheap.
I would suggest you to rent a cheap apartment in Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai or Tuen Mun. usually you can get $2000 for an 500sf apartment. I guess this is enough for your furniture. and you hold the key and can visit by yourself at anytime you want.

Make sure any storage location you choose is climate controlled or you'll get mold in no time.
I would also suggest you purge purge purge very aggressively. If you don't "need" the stuff for 1-3 years, consider what you can sell, throw and give to charity. We recently shipped over to HK the stuff we had in storage in our home country. It was sitting there for over 2 years. We ended up throwing, selling or giving away over 90% of it. A lot of it came from our old basement so we didn't really use it anyway. Most of it was not valuable or really "prized" by us (or we would have brought it with us in the first place).
Examples:
- Garden tools like wheelbarrow and pick axe: Don't need in HK.
- Tons of books. If we will never read them again, there is no point keeping them in the bookshelf.
- Many of the tools, for example circle saw. Don't need with a rental apartment.
- Old paperwork. Purged until we only keep the actual tax records. No point keeping electrical bills from 6 years ago.
Sure, we might some day need some of that stuff again. But we figure we can buy new. Much more convenient, and maybe even cheaper, than storing it for years and years "just in case".
Of course, if you have mementos that are emotionally valuable to you, consider hard whether to keep them. But even those contribute to clutter. If they're just sitting in a box and you never look at them, are they really that "loved" by you?
