I can't remember the protocol as it's been years since my partner and I went to one, so should appreciate advice on
* When do we actually give the golden envelope? Now, or should we wait until the wedding day? We've been invited by the parents of the bride and groom - do we give it to the parents or to the couple (whom we've never met)?
* Assume about $500+ from each of us should cover the cost of feeding and watering us in a medium priced Cantonese restaurant, or does this sound too mean?

If you're planning to go, you can give the envelope at the reception. HK$500 is OK if it's only a med priced Cantonese Restaurant, for hotel may be a bit more. If you're not planning to go, you can give HK$300.
